The storm clouds disappeared and the sun shined through for the Families Uniting Families Second Annual Holiday Celebration. This year, the party was held at the Long Beach Aquarium of The Pacific on December 17, 2006. A tent and tables were arranged on the front lawn of the Aquarium so that the families and children could mingle and enjoy the catered cuisine. Santa Claus made his annual appearance and passed out hand-made stockings filled with toys, candy, gift cards from the St. Luke's Young Adults Group, and hand painted wooden ornaments made by Mary Artino and friends. On both a personal and professional note, I must let you know how exciting it is for me to be able to get this, our first newsletter, into your hands. This newsletter marks yet another milestone for Families Uniting Families. In fact, it has only been three short years since our inception, and during this time, we have made some significant accomplishments. Foremost, since signing the contracts with LA and Orange Counties in November 2005, we have worked with 87 children and 16 certified foster families. more...
Steps to Becoming a Foster Parent
Families Uniting Families works in partnership with foster parent volunteers, also know as resource families, who are open minded, willing to learn, and able to empathize with the children in their care. Resource families often care for children of diverse cultures and complicated backgrounds.
